Fathom Research Preview · Last updated 28 June 2026
This notice explains how Fathom Seismic (“Fathom,” “we,” “us”) handles information in connection with the Fathom research preview (the “Preview”). It is written for the Preview and may change as the product evolves.
Your seismic data never leaves your device
The Preview processes your seismic data entirely on your own device, in your browser’s local storage. Your seismic files are not uploaded to, transmitted to, or stored on Fathom’s servers or any cloud service. We do not see, collect, or have access to your seismic data.
Information we do process
To provide access to the access-controlled Preview, we process a limited amount of information:
- Sign-in identity. Authentication is handled by Microsoft Entra External ID. When you sign in, your email address and basic profile information (such as your name) are processed to verify your identity and manage access.
- Authentication records. Standard sign-in metadata (such as timestamps and whether a sign-in succeeded) used to operate and secure access.
- Information you choose to send us. If you send feedback or a trace/bug report, we process whatever you include in it.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
Cookies and local storage
- Authentication cookies and tokens. The sign-in flow (Microsoft Entra External ID and Azure Static Web Apps) sets cookies and stores tokens that are strictly necessary to log you in and keep you signed in. The Preview does not work without these.
-
Local application storage. The Preview stores application data and
preferences — for example, your projects, sessions, and the cached form of volumes you
open — in your browser’s local and private storage (such as
localStorageand the Origin Private File System) on your device. This stays on your device. - No third-party advertising or tracking. We do not use advertising networks or third-party tracking cookies in the Preview.
Service providers
We rely on Microsoft Azure for static hosting (Azure Static Web Apps), identity (Microsoft Entra External ID), and content delivery (Azure Blob Storage for non-sensitive assets such as the site’s background video). These providers process limited data on our behalf to deliver the service; they do not receive your seismic data.
Data retention
We retain sign-in identity and authentication records for as long as you have access to the Preview and as needed to operate and secure it, after which we delete or de-identify them within a reasonable period. Application data and cached volumes live on your device and are under your control — you can clear them through your browser at any time.
Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to withdraw from the Preview. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@fathom-seismic.com. You can also clear the Preview’s on-device data at any time through your browser settings.
Children
The Preview is intended for professional and research use and is not directed to children.
Changes
We may update this notice as the Preview evolves; the “Last updated” date reflects the latest version.
